Mad at Wal-mart...lol

Has anyone else noticed that Wal-mart doesn't carry as big a selection of things as they used to? The last several times I've gone there looking for something in particular, they no longer carried it.

Today I went there in need of some black embroidery floss. I went up and down all the craft aisles at least twice. When I asked about it, the lady said they stopped carrying it over a year ago and would not carry it again. Huh?? They used to carry a rainbow of those 20 cent things of floss. She also told me they were doing away with their fabric department! I asked if they would still keep all the other crafty things like yarn, beads and so forth. She said they would be keeping some of the smaller items but not all.

New Castle is a small town. What makes me so mad about Wal-mart cutting back on their offerings is that in the past couple of years or so, in part thanks to the Super Wal-mart, Ben Franklin closed, Big Lots, Jo-Anne Fabrics & our one and only scrapbook store have all closed. Now that all these smaller businesses have closed people rely more heavily on Wal-mart in our town as that is the ONLY store around here (we have a couple of grocery stores). I needed that floss to finish up a project but I'm not driving 20+ miles somewhere for a 20 cent thing of floss.

I've got black paint and dental floss. Do you suppose......LOL Just kidding!

If you rely on your Wal-mart for fabric, etc. you should ask next time you're in your local store if they plan to do away with their fabric department. When I told my mom, she was like "OH! They carry Elvis fabric!!" She'll prolly be hiding under the Elvis fabric display, waiting on them to mark it down!! lol

Yup! They got rid of all the sewing ect. here in wisconsin too! the nearest place for me to buy fabric is in minnesota hour and a half away! ARRGGH.. They are putting in a huge selection of party stuff.. plates balloons ect. I suppose they will put all those small businesses out too. I have stopped going there. Walmart doesn't need my $200 a week in groceries ect.

OH my!!!! Now it all makes sense why the yarn is on clearance at our Walmart up here!!! Crap!!! We still have a Jo-Anns...for now at least.

Yep, they did the same thing in Marysville, Ohio Walmart. But the Urbana, Ohio Walmart refused to cave and said they won't get rid of the fabric dept. here. We are such a big 4H community, it would just be stupid! ~Beth~

It's crazy but they seem to be in the process of doing that here as well. It is maddening. My mother in law said you can call corporate Wal-Mart and complain and tell them you want to keep what little fabric dept you have. I have to drive 45 minutes to get most things I need now.

I AGREE WITH YOU. I LIVE 21 MILES FROM MY CLOSEST WAL-MART AND THEY DO STILL HAVE FABRIC, BUT NO FLOSS. I HAVE TO DRIVE TO OKLAHOMA CITY OR LAWTON TO JOANN'S FOR THAT AND THAT IS OVER 60 MILES EITHER WAY I GO. CAN'T WIN FOR LOSING WITH WAL-MART.

Our Walmart still carries alot of crafts & fabrics but they haven't sold floss in a long, long time. Luckily our Ben Franklin is still open and when I'm out of town I always stock up on craft supplies at Joannes or Hobby Lobby. I love their sales. Have a great weekend.

Our WM is cutting back as well and I've heard the same news about the fabric dept. I only go there if absolutely necessary now. It's unfornate and frustrating that they take so much away from the smaller business' and then stop carrying the things you've come to depend on them for.
Let me know if the painted dental floss works. :)

Hi! Our Walmart is doing the same thing here in New Jersey! Whenever I go I try to stock up on stuff I will need/use! Our fabric store and craft stores closed too. Our nearest JoAnns is about 45 minutes away! It is crazy! I was reading about a small town in VT that was looking for someone to move there and open a fabric store! I was game, hubby was not!
