Time with mom

My mom lives two hours south of us. We don't see her very often. She came up last Sunday to get some rest because she hadn't been feeling well...we live in the sticks and she lives in an apartment complex with a family living above her that sounds like a herd of cattle. Anyway, after she got here, she took a shower and her breathing just went down hill from there. So, we ended up taking her to the ER. They admitted her to the hospital and she stayed there Sunday-Thursday. I have to say that I was very impressed with our little country hospital! Far more so than the hospital in Muncie! Mom has COPD and has a long road ahead of her. She is here with us, trying to gather some strength and good health. She has started the journey in smoking cessation and I'm very proud of her! After smoking nearly 40 years, this is one of the hardest things she's ever done, but I know she has what it takes to make it!

Today was her first day out in a while. She took me out to lunch for my birthday and then hobbled around Wal-mart for a while. She was like a kid in a candy store! lol We are really enjoying our time together!

Happy Birthday to me!

I got the best birthday gift today, although it came a day early! I went to the gym today and every month, I will be getting weighed and measured there. My one-month date at the gym was Feb. 23, but since mom was in the hospital, I missed it. I was really nervous today getting weighed and measured, because I have only gone 3 weeks. I missed all last week to be with mom. Well!!! I am SO happy to say that I have lost 8.5 inches!!!!!!
WOOHOO!! lol 8.5" equals 5 pounds of that nasty yellow fat that I posted earlier! I can't remember where all the inches have changed, but I do remember I've lost 2 inches off my waist and 2" off my hips. I'm here to tell you that if I can do it, you can too!! I'm not just overweight, I have a degenerating spine that leaves me in so much pain some days. But, exercise is totally strengthening my back and that makes me feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel! 8.5 inches gone...Happy Birthday to me! LOL

Word Crunch

Word Crunch
Check out the above game! I love it!

Beyond Frigid!

Man, oh man is it ever cold! At noon today, it was 4* below zero and the wind chill felt like a zillion below!! My car is still snowed in, so I rode the 4-wheeler down to the mail box. I waited til it got up to 13*. What was I thinking?? Is there a difference in 4* below and 13* above?? NO!! lol My left eye watered so bad I couldn't see out of it and it nearly froze shut! lol
I've been snowed in all week and haven't done a thing! I can surely accomplish something today?!? Don't hold your breath, but I'll let you know! =)

Valentine's Day Gift

This beautiful bird, plus several others, entertained me on Valentine's Day...right outside our picture window.

Snoopy's in heaven!

He LoVeS the snow!! He eats it, rolls in it, romps around...he's so funny!

Taking off the top layer...

We had to remove the snow in several layers. It took over 3 hours to get to the road from our house!

Snowed in

For once the meteorologist was right and we got blasted with a blizzard! Tuesday and Wednesday, we rec'd 15-16" of snow here in New Castle. Woohoo! Fred's boss called Tuesday and told him not to try to come in, plus he already had Wednesday off, so we had two awesome days being snowed in! One of our "snowed in" traditions is that I bake a bunch of cookies...and we eat them ALL without guilt! LOL I make up a batch of dough then divide it up. We add whatever "Mix-in's" we want. We usually add Chocolate chips to some of the dough, plus butterscotch chips, M & M's, etc. Just whatever sounds good at the time! We played Mexican Train domino's, caught up on our taped episodes of American Idol, etc. I made a big pot of chili too. Wednesday, it took over 3 hours to get out of our driveway. We have a plow on our 4-wheeler and the snow is so deep, we had to plow it in layers. If we didn't have a 4 wheel drive truck, we would have never made it out! We went to Applebee's for a Valentine's dinner and came right back home. It was frigid out!!!!

I went 3 days without mail service, which, if you know me very well, you know that that is NOT a good thing! lol

Today, Thursday, Fred went back to work and waaaahhhh...I'm so NOT liking being home alone!! I feel kind of lost.

What a view!

I took this photo today, looking out one of our living room windows

The blacktop visible is our drive way.

Winter wonderland

Gosh, it's been quite a while since I've written anything here. Time sure flies, huh?

We have a very special friend. Her name is Patti and she is 77 years old. She is an absolute hoot and is like a mother to both of us. She came out last Sunday to watch the Super Bowl with my hubby because she loves football as much as Fred and I don't. But, YAY! I'm so glad the Colts won!! Anyway...Patti is still here...5 days later. We've had so much fun together. We are all so comfortable around each other that there's no stress when she's here...there's no need for conversation if we don't have anything to talk about, etc.

The three of us are going to a Valentine's Banquet at church tonight.

We got 7.25" of snow on Tuesday. We're lovin' it!! It is so gorgeous! I bought 3 new bird feeders yesterday to keep up with the demand...lol...and today, we've watched several cardinals, a woodpecker, a dove and various other birds having themselves a time! One feeder needs refilled already!

It's been frigid here...oft times below zero, but winter can be so beautfiul! The photo below was taken of our neighbor's pasture a few days ago, before all the snow fell!
